Routine Dental Care

When you come to see us for a routine preventive appointment, it will begin with a thorough checkup. Dr. Kar will look at your teeth, gums, jaw, bite, and any existing dental work so he can catch and treat small problems before they can affect your oral health and become a bigger issue. Then, you’ll receive a refreshing cleaning to remove any plaque and tartar buildup on your teeth and gums. We recommend that adults should have at least two checkups and cleanings each year (or one every six months).

Dental Sealants

Did you know that the back teeth—known as the molars—are the most likely to develop cavities? Their rough and pitted surfaces trap food particles easily, and they can be quite difficult to completely clean while brushing. With dental sealants, we can give these teeth the extra protection they need. We simply apply a resin-based substance to the teeth, and then it quickly hardens into a thin, invisible barrier that cavity-causing plaque, bacteria, and acids cannot cross.

Nightguards for Bruxism

Bruxism is a very common response to daily stress, and it involves a person unconsciously clenching their jaw and grinding their teeth while they sleep. Over time, this can severely wear down the teeth and even strain the sensitive joints in the jaw. To help patients with this problem, Dr. Kar can recommend that they wear a small oral appliance to bed, called a nightguard. Custom-designed for a patient, it comfortably fits over the teeth and places a protective barrier between them to prevent any harmful contact. There are different types of Nightguards. We recommend a soft/hard Nightguard. This simply is soft on the inside which makes it comfortable for the patient and hard on the outside to stop the grinding.

Oral Cancer Screenings

This year alone, nearly 50,000 people will be diagnosed with oral cancer, and sadly, nearly half will not survive the next five years simply because the disease wasn’t caught until it was quite advanced. Early detection is the key to successfully treating the disease, which is why Dr. Kar includes a full oral cancer screening as part of every checkup. He’ll look for the signs of precancerous and cancerous tissues in your mouth, and if he sees anything that causes concern, he can help you receive the follow-up care you need right away.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is a mineral you’ll find in many foods, toothpastes, and even the water that comes out of your tap, and this is great news because it’s able to help strengthen the teeth and prevent cavities. However, due to the growth in popularity of non-fluoridated bottled water, more people aren’t getting enough every day to keep their smiles fully protected. This is why Dr. Kar is happy to provide fluoride treatment during regular checkups. It’s quick, painless, and one of the easiest ways to keep your teeth healthy between appointments.

Gum Disease Treatment

Periodontal disease, better known as gum disease, is one of the most common and damaging dental problems in the world. It’s a bacterial infection of the gums, roots of the teeth, and the bones that support them, and it’s the leading cause of adult tooth loss here in the U.S.! We’ll screen your gums whenever you come to see us, and if we see any problems, we have a variety of periodontal therapy treatments designed to quickly get the infection under control and protect the smile.
